BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING TEMPLATE ON CD-ROM
by Douglas M. Henderson
Every year hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, fires, sabotage, and other major disasters
expose businesses to risk. We are astounded to find so many organizations without a
workable recovery plan for their business.
Why are so many businesses without an effective Business Continuity Plan (BCP)? Until
now, the only options available were financially prohibitive except for the largest companies.
This easy to use and cost-effective template is designed to guide your organization with the
preparation of a Business Continuity Plan.
Some organizations have a plan for their Technology Department but do not address other
critical business functions. The Business Continuity Planning Template on CD-ROM
(DMI.BCP) is a complete "turnkey" package that incorporates planning advice for your entire
business with an emphasis on business operational issues.
The Business Continuity Plan Template addresses the information from the Business Impact
Analysis and then guides the user (with Author's Notes and Sample BCPs) to create a BCP.
The structure of the BCP is designed to be compatible with organization of a typical
business and should require little modification. Detailed checklists for the Business Units
provide additional information that is useful in developing the Business Unit Plans. Two
sample BCPs are included to assist the user: one for a hypothetical service industry
business and the other for a hypothetical manufacturing business.

WHO SHOULD USE THE PLAN?
- The DMI.BCP that is designed for a small or medium sized organization.
- Companies that have developed good IT plan but need to develop a good
business-wide plan with planning for their business units (operational groups and support
departments).
- - - - - - -
WHY IS THE PLAN EASY TO USE?
- The documentation is very comprehensive allowing the user to perform much of
the update by simply ‘editing-out’ text.
- The DMI.BCP is completely compatible with the Disaster Management, Inc.
Business Impact Analysis template (DMI.BIA). A considerable amount of the DMI.BCP
editing update process is merely an insertion from the DMI.BIA.
- The DMI.BCP is completely compatible with the Disaster Management, Inc. Crisis
Management Protocols for Business (DMI.CMP). Additional incident response planning by
specific disaster events can be easily and inexpensively incorporated into the planning
process.
- The DMI.BCP utilizes a ‘fill in the blanks’ format that can be easily updated.
- The DMI.BCP utilizes a Microsoft Word format that requires no special training to
complete.
- Numerous ‘Author’s Notes’ have been inserted to assist the user.
- Two sample Business Continuity Plans are included to guide the user through the
editing update process.
