In the year 2000 Delaware had an estimated population of 783,600 which
ranked the state as having the 45th in population. For that year the
State of Delaware had a total Crime Index of 4,478.1 reported incidents
per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 17th highest
total Crime Index. For Violent Crime Delaware had a reported incident
rate of 684.4 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the
6th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes
against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 3,793.6 per
100,000 people, which ranked as the state 19th highest. Also in the
year 2000 Delaware had 3.2 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the
state as having the 32nd highest rate for Murder. Delaware’s
54.1 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 2nd
highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, Delaware’s rate was
177.9 which ranked the state 6th highest for Robbery. The state also
had 449.2 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed
the state as having the 7th highest position for this crime among the
states. For every 100,000 people there were 665.6 Burglaries, which
ranks Delaware as having the 24th highest standing among the states.
Larceny - Theft were reported 2,725.9 times per hundred thousand people
in Delaware which standing is the 20th highest among the states.
Vehicle Theft occurred 402.1 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the
state as having the 20th highest for vehicle theft among the states.
