In the year 2000 Oklahoma had an estimated population of 3,450,654 which ranked the state 27th in population. For that year the State of Oklahoma had a total Crime Index of 4,558.6 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 14th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime Oklahoma had a reported incident rate of 497.8 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 17th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 4,060.8 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 14th highest. Also in the year 2000 Oklahoma had 5.3 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 22nd highest rate for Murder. Oklahoma’s 41.2 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 10th highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, Oklahoma’s rate was 75.8 which ranked the state as having the 35th highest for Robbery. The state also had 375.5 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 11th highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000 people there were 917.5 Burglaries, which ranks Oklahoma as having the 8th highest standing among the states. Larceny - Theft were reported 2,785.4 times per hundred thousand people in Oklahoma which standing is the 18th highest among the states. Vehicle Theft occurred 357.8 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as having the 25th highest for vehicle theft among the states.
