Drug Treatment
The table below provides the rank of each State's reported rate of crime as compared to the 50 States and the District of Columbia.  1 = the highest reported crime rate and 51 = the lowest. Going from one year to the next a higher number means, that compared to other States, the relative crime rate is increasing and a lower number means that the relative level of crime is decreasing.  The Index category represents the total number of crimes, and since most crimes involve property crime it is weighted towards these types of crime.

In the year 2000 Louisiana had an estimated population of 4,468,976 which ranked the state 22nd in population. For that year the State of Louisiana had a total Crime Index of 5,422.8 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 4th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime Louisiana had a reported incident rate of 681.1 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 7th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 4,741.7 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 5th highest. Also in the year 2000 Louisiana had 12.5 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 1st highest rate for Murder. Louisiana’s 33.5 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 21st highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, Louisiana’s rate was 168.5 which ranked the state 8th highest for Robbery. The state also had 466.6 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 6th highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000 people there were 1,035.8 Burglaries, which ranks Louisiana as having the 4th highest standing among the states. Larceny -Theft were reported 3,229.9 times per hundred thousand people in Louisiana which standing is the 7th highest among the states. Vehicle Theft occurred 475.9 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as having the 10th highest for vehicle
