Drug Treatment
 The table below provides the rank of each State's reported rate of crime as compared to the 50 States and the District of Columbia.  1 = the highest reported crime rate and 51 = the lowest. Going from one year to the next a higher number means, that compared to other States, the relative crime rate is increasing and a lower number means that the relative level of crime is decreasing.  The Index category represents the total number of crimes, and since most crimes involve property crime it is weighted towards these types of crime.

In the year 2000 Kentucky had an estimated population of 4,041,769 which ranked the state 25th in population. For that year the State of Kentucky had a total Crime Index of 2,959.7 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 45th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime Kentucky had a reported incident rate of 294.5 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 36th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 2,665.2 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 42nd highest. Also in the year 2000 Kentucky had 4.8 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 25th highest rate for Murder. Kentucky’s 27.0 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 35th highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, Kentucky’s rate was 80.6 which ranked the state as having the 32nd highest for Robbery. The state also had 182.2 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 37th highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000 people there were 626.2 Burglaries, which ranks Kentucky as having the 30th highest standing among the states. Larceny - Theft were reported 1,809.6 times per hundred thousand people in Kentucky which standing is the 44th highest among the states. Vehicle Theft occurred 229.5 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as having the 40th highest for vehicle
