100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 47th highest total
Crime Index. For Violent Crime West Virginia had a reported incident
rate of 316.5 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the
34th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes
against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 2,286.3 per
100,000 people, which ranked as the state 47th highest. Also in the
year 2000 West Virginia had 2.5 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the
state as having the 38th highest rate for Murder. West
Virginia’s 18.3 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people,
ranked the state 49th highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, West
Virginia’s rate was 41.4 which ranked the state as having the
41st highest for Robbery. The state also had 254.2 Aggravated Assaults
for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 24th
highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000
people there were 546.9 Burglaries, which ranks West Virginia as having
the 36th highest standing among the states. Larceny - Theft were
reported 1,556.1 times per hundred thousand people in West Virginia
which standing is the 50th highest among the states. Vehicle Theft
occurred 183.3 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as
having the 43rd highest for vehicle theft among the states.
