In the year 2000 Nebraska had an estimated population of 1,711,263 which ranked the state 38th in population. For that year the State of Nebraska had a total Crime Index of 4,095.5 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 25th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime Nebraska had a reported incident rate of 327.6 per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 32nd highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 3,767.9 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 20th highest. Also in the year 2000 Nebraska had 3.7 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 28th highest rate for Murder. Nebraska’s 25.5 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 39th highest. For Robbery, per 100,000 people, Nebraska’s rate was 67.0 which ranked the state as having the 39th highest for Robbery. The state also had 231.4 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 27th highest position for this crime among the states. For every 100,000 people there were 592.0 Burglaries, which ranks Nebraska as having the 32nd highest standing among the states. Larceny - Theft were reported 2,870.3 times per hundred thousand people in Nebraska which standing is the 14th highest among the states. Vehicle Theft occurred 305.6 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as having the 29th highest for vehicle theft among the states.
